Nintendo Switch 2 Maintains Strong Sales Momentum as Flagship Titles Drive Performance
Kyoto-based Nintendo reports stable demand for its Switch 2 console, with 17.37 million units sold as of December—including 7 million during the critical holiday quarter. The device has become the fastest-selling video game hardware in US history, moving 1.6 million units in June 2025 alone, surpassing PlayStation 4's 2013 record.
Third-quarter financials show an 86% revenue surge to ¥806.32 billion ($5.4 billion), with net profit climbing 24% to ¥159.93 billion ($1.1 billion). This outperformance stems from blockbuster game sales: 'Mario Kart World' moved 14 million copies while 'Donkey Kong Bananza' sold 4.25 million, collectively driving hardware adoption.
Despite these fundamentals, Nintendo's stock remains under pressure—a paradox highlighting market skepticism about sustained growth in the face of intensifying console competition and shifting gaming demographics toward mobile and cloud platforms.
